This year’s National Day Parade was held at the Marina Bay platform. The uniform groups involved are :

- NPCC

- NCDCC

- NCC

- BB

- GB

- Scouts

- Red Cross

- St. John’s

Every year, each unit will send one cadet for NDP. This year, I was sent to participate in the parade. We had two months to train for the event, once a week. The trainings were not very strict in the sense that we only marched out twice in the day. The food was great! We had KFC, Pizza Hut and Old Chang Kee, and our holding area was in Suntec’s convention hall, meaning – AIR CON!!! We learnt a new type of drill called umbrella drill, where we use an umbrella. The umbrella is used to make the word SINGAPORE during the presidential salute.

This year, NPCC had the honour to be the centre contingent, meaning that we had to work extra hard, especially the middle two rows which were marching in. Incidentally, the middle two rows were the shortest people after sizing, which were all the girls. Including me. We gave up our breaks to do drills, making sure our dressing was perfectly coordinated with each other and with the row at the opposite end of the platform. The parade sergeant major often came down to teach us personally, an act which we appreciated as not often do people like him come all the way down just to teach us.

At HTA, the uniform checks were extremely detailed and all uniforms had to be up to their standards. Simple things like the seam lines and the badge arrangements must be corrected, and boots must always be polished.

Although the training was physically exhausting at times, it was well worth it when we marched out onto the platform on National Day. Standing there in the middle of the platform and watching everyone there waving their flags – it was amazing. Before the parade, the Defence Minister of Singapore came down to congratulate us on performing, and we took a photo with him, too.

I met several people during the course of the trainings, CIs, and fellow cadets.

CIs/FIs/Officers/E.T.C. and their erm… ‘descriptions’:

1) Master Warrant Officer Shamsuddin (For personally coaching NPCC Contingent in Umbrella Drills)

2) FI Dominic (For being in charge of NPCC weekly trainings in the first half of the period)

3) FI Faizal (For being in charge of NPCC weekly trainings in the second half of the period)

4) FI Kelvin (For accompanying NPCC contingent and handling disciplinary matters)

5) FI Joseph (Somewhat similar to FI Kelvin)

6) HO Raymond (For teaching us how to drink bottles of 600ml water at one go)

7) HO Syikin (For overseeing the CIs)

8) CI Lianyu (For treating us to sweets ALL THE TIME… she left us to study overseas, if I’m right)

9) CI Tian Guan (Contingent Commander : "Dare to strive for the highest")

10) CI Jin Yuan (Joker of the day)

11) CI Kee Kwoon (Joker of the day²)

12) CI Florence (Erm... Lamer of the day)

13) CI Eunice (Kbox "Queen")

14) CI Ming Jun (Driller of the day)

15) CI Choy Ping (Xiongness)

16) CI Michelle (DIAO-NESS)

17) CI Jia Wei (Randomness)

18) CI Derek (Tuition Teacher to us during our waiting time)

19) CI Chun Quan (For the "must-wear-mufti" advice, and for causing catfights in the EUNOS-BUS because of his ‘ahem-ahem’ with ‘ahem-ahem’.)

20) CI Zhi Guang (Another randomness)

21) CI Syahmi (Hmm... nice person?)

AND THAT CONCLUDES NDP 2008!!! XDD
